Third ERSADS
European Research Seminar on Advances in Distributed Systems
Spring School and Workshop
Madeira Island - Portugal. 23-28 April 1999

The Seminar is both an Advanced School and a Research Workshop, combining tutorials by
experts and presentations by participants.
TUTORIALS: As a school, it offers in-depth tutorials on advanced research relating to
distributed computing systems. Five recognised experts in fields related with
distributed systems lecture the advanced school, in half-day tutorials of hot practical or
theoretical interest.
WORKSHOP: The workshop programme is composed of presentations by the
participants. Paper submission is not mandatory for attendance of the Seminar. However,
participants researching in distributed systems, and particularly in the topic areas of
the tutorials, are encouraged to make a submission. The Scientific Committee's selection
takes into account quality, innovation and potential to foster discussion. Relevance
to the tutorial topics will also be considered. Selected papers will also appear in
the ERSADS proceedings.
Interested participants, whether or not they also submit a paper, should send in their
registration within the appropriate deadlines.
The setting of the seminar favours cross-fertilisation and live discussion of
viewpoints amongst all involved. The schedule leaves time for informal exchanges and
outdoors activities, and we expect ERSADS to create informal links amongst researchers
that last beyond it.
ERSADS is now well established. The two previous editions took place in the
French Alps in 1995, and in the Swiss Alps in 1997. Attendance has always been high,
composed of high quality researchers, professionals and students. The tutorial
topics and speakers are renewed at each edition.
